Rocky Mountain Nationals Results

After a 2 year hiatus due to the global pandemic, the Rocky Mountain Nationals returned with authority to RAD Torque Raceway in Edmonton July 8-10. Featuring the Shockwave Jet Truck, 5 Nitro Funny Cars, 5 Top Alcohol Funny Cars, as well as 4 Nitro Altereds , WCPM Pro Modifieds and more! Nearly 10,000 fans packed into the premier facility of Western Canada to take in the action, they were greeted with long smoky burnouts, the smell of side by side nitro action and even a special appearance by the NHRA President, Glen Cromwell who spoke with racers and spectators in attendance during his visit to the Reeves’ first class facility!

Manufacturers filled the midway and fans even got to witness a 12,000 pound monster truck making its way down the quarter mile, whom will return to RAD Torque Raceway later this year, August 19-21 for Monster Truck Throwdown!

Fans even got to experience the action from the comfort of their own homes as the event was livestreamed courtesy of HN Live Amateur Sports broadcasting. The high quality stream received hundreds of viewers from all over the world!

Red Deer, AB’s Dean Bettenson kept his hot streak alive, fresh off of a David vs Goliath win over Khalid Al-Balooshi at the DoorWarz event at Mission Raceway Park the week prior. He blasted his way through the competition on Sunday posting a slew of 3.90 second runs in the 1/8 mile. He took down Steve Goddard in the final with a 3.9664 at 188.76 MPH to Goddard’s 4.1680 at 165.87 MPH. Dean also had low ET and MPH of the weekend with a 3.8646 at 194.72 MPH.

The Nitro Altered and Funny Car classes made exhibition runs all weekend for the packed stands, with side by side low 6-second passes well over 220 MPH.

NHRA Division 6 racers travelled near and far to attend the event to race for the coveted Wally in a doubleheader event, crowning champions Saturday and Sunday. Competing in a multitude of classes including Top Sportsman, Top Dragster all the way down to the Junior Thunder and Lightning classes.
