BAILEYTON, AL – Over 130 entries rolled into Baileyton “Good Time” Dragstrip on August 1st for their chance at $5,000. The pro and footbrake classes were ran separately and each driver received one complementary tech card. The winning footbrake racer earned a $500 bonus and advanced into the next round of the pro class.
Rain moved into the area during third round which forced promoters Brody Quick and Russ Easterwood to complete the race on Sunday. Regarding the unexpected schedule change, they told DragChamp, “We appreciate the racers for understanding the situation and sticking with us to get the race finished!” It was a smart decision because Sunday was full of sunny skies to finish the event.
In an all Camaro final round, last year’s winner, Barry Davis, staged up beside Cody Barnhart to see who would move on for a shot at $5,000. Davis was .002 to Barnhart’s .039 reaction time, but took a little too much stripe to breakout seven thousandths. Barnhart collects the Drag Coverage $500 bonus and advances into the quarterfinal round of Pro.
The Road to $5,000
The Drag Flyer Pro category’s remaining six drivers were Mark Woods, Terrell Biddle, Jesse McKnight, Heath Davis, Cody Barnhart, and Ryan Tankersley.
Woods used a .003 reaction time to package up Biddle while Tankersley’s .039 package wasn’t enough to defeat Barnhart. McKnight was perfect on the tree to create a ten pack which left Davis’ .012 reaction time mathematically ineligible.
Mark Woods took the solo pass into the final round, leaving Jesse McKnight to face Cody Barnhart. McKnight showed no mercy to the bottom bulber when he lays down a .005 package beside Barnhart’s breakout run.
It was an all Chevrolet door car final round with Mark Woods in the Vega taking on Jesse McKnight in the Camaro. Woods laid down a .012 package to pick up $5,000 against McKnight’s .025 reaction time.
