Graeme Rufenacht is the May DragChamp Jr. Racer of the Month! Graeme dominated the SouthWest Jr. Dragster Series to secure the title.
After announcing our newest award last month, we’re moving into month number two of the DragChamp Jr. Racer of the Month. We teamed up with Travis Theobald at Theobald Motorsports to create monthly trophies to recognize the top performing Jr. racer each month.
To crown the Jr. Racer of the Month for May, we scoured the Top 10 Lists from May to see who made the biggest impact during the month. At stake is bragging rights and a custom trophy from Travis Theobald at Theobald Motorsports.
As we reviewed the May Top 10 Lists, several racers stood out. Some of the highlights included another #1 spot for Victoria Beaner, Hailey Peterson sweeping the weekend at Bradenton, and the April Jr. Racer of the Month Kane Kern having a big weekend at the SWJDS at Little River in Texas.
A number of other racers made a splash in May including Jake Taylor who won four of five finals at Las Vegas. Dylan Hite made the final round at both of the Great American Bracket Race Gamblers races which included most of the best Jr. racers in the country. April contenders CJ Jenkins and Cameron Nelson both added to their win totals during the month of May as well.
There were more great performances in May like Tanner Mocny winning on three consecutive weeks, Timothy Rivette making finals three weeks in a row, Brandon Deal making finals in four of five weekends, and Hayden Miller winning three times in two weeks at Atmore and Gulfport.
Team Rachford – Dream Team Champs! The 2021 Dream Team Jr. champions made a huge splash on the Jr. Top 10 List. The team consisting of Jesse Fritts, Alyssa Martin, Jesse Lasik, Gage Rachford, and Peyten Jiminez took down the defending champions of Team Willis. In addition to winning the Dream Team race, several of the team members enjoyed successful outings leading up to and after their big weekend in Holly Springs.
Gage Rachford followed up his Dream Team victory by making three finals a week later winning two of the three at Edgewater.
Jesse Lasik also followed up his Dream Team victory with a huge performance the following week. Lasik doubled up at the Mid West Jr. Super Series race at Wagler Motorsports Park.
Jesse Fritts carried huge momentum into the Dream Team race as he won five of six races prior to the arriving at Holly Springs.
Brian Yerger Jr. made a huge run at the May Jr. Racer of the Month after collecting the largest Jr. payout of the month. Yerger won $5,000 at Mooresville and added a $1,000 victory and a win at a Wally race to close out an outstanding month.
May Jr. Racer of the Month
And then there was one. Our May Jr. Racer of the Month is Graeme Rufenacht! Rufenacht, the 2020 Jr. Racer of the Year, continues to impress. In the month of May, Graeme rekindled his magic from 2020 and dominated the SouthWest Jr. Dragster Series. Starting at the I-30 Dragway event, he began the weekend with a $400 victory in the Friday Gamblers race and ended with a $1,000 victory in the All Run Big Money class. Rufenacht threw in a semifinal finish in another class to close out the weekend.
As the SWJDS moved to Little River Dragway in Temple, TX a couple of weeks later, Rufenacht continued to turn on win lights. There he won twice, made another final, and added a semifinal finish to complete an outstanding weekend against a tough field of racers. His wins came in 7.90 Index and 13-17 Age Group while the runner-up was in the Quick 16 class. The semifinal finish was in the All Run Big Money class.
Graeme continues to show his versatility winning in multiple different styles of racing, at a variety of race tracks, and in several different cars.
Congratulations to Graeme and his father Sam on an amazing month of racing. For winning the DragChamp Jr. Racer of the Month award, Graeme will receive a custom trophy courtesy of Travis Theobald at Theobald Motorsports.
How the winner is determined: The DragChamp Jr. Racer of the Month award is presented to the racer that makes the biggest impact on the Top 10 List during the month. To be considered for the Jr. Racer of the Month title, a racer must make at least one Top 10 appearance during the month. At the end of the month, we review the weekly Top 10 lists, and select the racer that has performed the best in our opinion. The winner receives a custom Racer of the Month trophy courtesy of Travis Theobald at Theobald Motorsports.
