DragChamp Racer of the Year Top 10 List
1 – Jeff Serra

Jeff Serra easily posted one of the best seasons in bracket racing history. When you add in his victory at the 2020 Guaranteed Million, he may have had the most profitable 14 months in bracket racing history. After finishing 2020 on a high note, Serra destroyed 2021 collecting wins at a breakneck pace. His major accomplishments on the season included a $175,000 SFG win, running himself in the $100,000 Summer Fling final, a $75,000 victory at VMP, a $40,000 victory at the GABR Million, two $25,000 victories, a $20,000 win, and two $40K runner-ups. And that’s just the highlights, lol. Jeff made finals on almost a weekly basis and even through in some semifinal appearances at big money races too. With a performance like that, we are proud to award Jeff Serra as the 2021 Racer of the Year.
Along with the Racer of the Year title, Jeff will receive a custom trophy built and designed by Travis Theobald of Theobald Motorsports. Serra will also receive a Wild Willy Fuel Fragrance sample pack to keep his hot rods smelling sweet.
2 – Nasty Nick Hastings

For the third consecutive season Nick Hastings won the Bottom Bulb Racer of the Year title! This also marks his third top 2 finish in the Racer of the Year standings after finishing tied for 2nd in 2019 and winning the title in 2021. Nasty Nick enjoyed another phenomenal season in 2021 winning on a weekly basis at the biggest events of the season. While it’s hard to list all of Nick’s accomplishments, we’ll hit the highlight reel for you.

Champ grabs the three spot after putting on a clinic in the back half of the season driving Mitch Clary’s dragster. McCrory raced to victories at two SFG races taking home $100,000 and $50,000 big checks along the way. At the Mickey Thompson Million at SGMP, Champ drove to a semifinal finish to capture another big payday. He added to his dream season when he made the Great American Guaranteed Million final where he just missed the million dollar score. Although he came up just short in both million’s, Champ brought home a butt load of cash!
4 – Luke Bogacki

Luke Bogacki put together one of the best seasons in NHRA Lucas Oil history after winning five times in seven finals. The 734 points he earned in 2021 was the fifth highest points total in sportsman racing history. After dominating the Super Gas class like no one has ever done before, Luke was crowned the DragChamp 2021 Super Class Racer of the Year! And if that wasn’t enough, he drove his 4-second buggy to an $80,000 victory at the Great American Guaranteed Million in October.
5 – Austin Williams

A-dub enjoyed a huge season in SG and SC winning five times in seven finals between the two classes. In Super Gas, he finished #2 in both the national and Division 4 standings. In his Super Comp dragster, Williams finished #10 nationally and #3 in Division 4. In addition to his success on the NHRA tour, Williams drove a variety of cars, including a Bronco II, to numerous bracket racing and index victories in 2021. His versatility and ability to find the winners circle in pretty much any car and any class helped secure his Top 5 ranking.
6 – Christopher Dodd

Christopher Dodd won the NHRA Super Comp national championship for the second consecutive season. Dodd became just the fourth driver in NHRA history to win back-to-back Super Comp championships. The list includes Scotty Richardson, Shawn Langdon, and Gary Stinnett. In addition to winning the championship, Dodd won two of three Super Comp finals during the year and was also the Division 4 champion. He added a couple of big money bracket racing trophies to the collection in 2021 as well.
7 – Gage Burch

Gage Burch was the only racer to make two of our year end Top 10 Lists. Along with multiple $10K victories off the Top, Gage won $25,000 at the SFG race in Iowa, made two $50,000 finals, and posted several semifinal finishes at big money races including two $50 granders and a $40 grand race. In addition to his Top Bulb success, Gage won on seemingly a weekly basis in his wheelstanding Mustang off the bottom. This included numerous weekends where he doubled up or made multiple finals.
8 – Darian Boesch

Darian Boesch won the DragChamp / Laris Motorsports Insurance Top Sportsman / Top Dragster Racer of the Year title for the second consecutive season. The 2020 NHRA Top Sportsman world champ once again proved his driving talents after following up the championship with another strong season in 2021. Boesch posted Top 10 finishes nationally with a 3rd place finish in Top Sportsman and a 9th place finish in Top Dragster. He also won the Division 4 TS championship and finished 2nd in the D4 TD standings. The southern Louisiana native won four times in six finals on the season. He even turned on a ton on win lights on the bracket racing scene with his blown dragster.
9 – Steve Collier

Steve Collier parlayed 14 wins in 21 finals on the season into a second place finish on the annual Top 10 Bottom Bulb List. Collier was a consistent fixture on the Top 10 List throughout the year. Highlights included winning $8,000 Gamblers race at the World Footbrake Challenge in a car he had never driven, beating Nick Hastings in a $5K final, winning Super Pro off the bottom, and making multiple finals on the same weekend several times.
10 – Greg Stanfield

Engine builder, former Pro Stock driver, and sportsman legend Greg Stanfield was named the 2021 DragChamp Class Racer of the Year. After years of chasing Pro Stock car and truck championships and decades removed from his four Super Stock World Championships, Stanfield won his fifth world title this season. Driving the same Camaro he won his first championship in 1990, Stanfield won the NHRA Super Stock world championship along with the Division 4 Super Stock title. Greg made five final round appearances in 2021 winning four times. When the championship was on the line late in the season, Greg made back-to-back national event finals at Dallas (RU) and Bristol (W) to secure the championship.
