May 2021 Racer of the Month – Slick Rick Baehr

Slick Rick Baehr is the DragChamp May Racer of the Month! Baehr won everywhere he raced in May to grab the title.

It’s time once again to crown the DragChamp Racer of the Month. As we review the Laris Motorsports Insurance Top 10 Lists from the month of May, a handful of racers caught our attention. At stake is bragging rights, a custom trophy from Theobald Motorsports and a sample package from Wild Willy Fuel Fragrance.

As we reviewed the Top 10 Lists, we looked for the racers that made the biggest impact on the List during the month of May.

While there were a few racers that stood above the rest of the crowd, we also wanted to highlight several racers who grabbed our attention.

JR Barclay doubled up at the Memorial Day Madness, Jake Howard swept the No-Box class at the Windmill Nationals, and Cody Wiggins showed out on back-to-back weekends winning at both the Great American Bracket Race and the NHRA SportsNationals.

Jordan Wilhelm made the Top 10 List on two occasions. Once after a near double at Muncie and again later in the month when he made three finals in one weekend winning twice. Jacob Prewitt also enjoyed a big month winning four times in five finals at Edgewater. Another bracket racer that made noise during the month of May was Brendan George. The Florida-based racer won on three consecutive weekends at Gainesville racer to secure his spot on the list.

On the NHRA tour, a few racers outperformed their counterparts. This included Anthony Bertozzi, Steve Foley, and David Barton. Bertozzi, the 2020 Top Dragster World Champ, doubled up at the Atlanta Lucas Oil series event winning Super Stock and Top Dragster. Bottom bulb specialist Foley almost duplicated that feat as he won the Divisional at Atlanta in Stock and followed with a National Open victory the following day. Barton drove his COPO Camaro to back-to-back NHRA national event wins in Charlotte and Houston. The double was unique in that he competed in Comp at Charlotte and Factory Stock at Houston.

Top Contenders

Luke Bogacki has been on a tear in the early part of 2021. After winning a couple of times in his Vega in April, Luke turned up the heat in May winning Super Gas at the Southern Nationals and the Division 4 Lucas Oil series event in Dallas. This comes on the heels of his Super Gas victory earlier in the season in Baton Rouge.

Kyle Rumley drove Goldie to a number of final rounds in May. He accomplished this against some of the biggest fields and toughest races in the country. Rumley drove to a win at the Mississippi Madness, a runner-up at the Working Mans $10 Grands, and finished with a W at the Memphis bracket race.

Nasty Nick Hastings was once again in the mix at almost every big event in May. On consecutive weekends Nick won $75K at the Loose Rocker Super Pro $75K and followed with a huge weekend at the Great American Bracket Race and Dream Team Challenge. At the Dream Team race he picked up wins in the Dream Team and Thursday’s Gamblers race, went to the semi’s in a $5K, and lost by a thou in the quarterfinals of the $15K.
